What is European Mobility Week?
European Mobility Week is a great initiative that started in 2002. It aims to call on European cities and towns to devote a week to highlighting the importance of sustainable mobility. The event has been created to help us progress towards a greener way of doing things when we travel, whether short or long distance.
This year, European Mobility week will be starting on Saturday 16 September and lasts until Friday 22 September.
Many cities and towns who take part in European Mobility Week decide to dedicate a day to making their towns completely “car-free”. For example, last year Brussels decided to hold a car-free Sunday on 18 September. The event is a huge success every year, as Europe makes some of its largest areas car-free zones. Residents benefit massively as it allows people to rediscover the peacefulness of their city.
Whilst the aim is not to be completely without vehicles, it raises awareness of the value of electric vehicles.
