The national speed limit on motorways is 130 km/h, on main roads it is 100 km/h, and on secondary roads it is 90 km/h. The speed limit in urban areas is set between 50-70 km/h, which will be signposted. Speed must be reduced according to visibility at night, in school zones, and narrow or steep roads. Subject to weather conditions, the speed limit can change to 90 km/h on roads outside built-up areas, and 110 km/h on motorways.

Be aware that the rules around parking are a bit different in Italy. For built-up areas, parking is allowed on the right-hand side of roads with two-way traffic. For one-way streets, parking is permitted on both sides of the street, but only if there is at least 3 metres space left in the road.

Paid parking zones are enforced in big towns, and indicated by blue road signs. Zones with limited parking times are indicated by blue stripes. In the capital city Rome, parking is prohibited in the historic centre from Monday-Friday, between 7am-8pm.
